What is the Planner?

Learn about ProcessPro's Planner feature for strategic planning with Plans, Focus Areas, and Goals.

Written by James Ross

Description

The Planner is ProcessPro's strategic planning module. It helps organisations break down their strategic objectives into structured, trackable plans — complete with focus areas, goals, ownership, and progress tracking.

Think of the Planner as the bridge between high-level strategy and day-to-day execution. Instead of strategy living in a slide deck that no one reads, the Planner puts it directly into the hands of the people responsible for making it happen.

Why Use the Planner?

  • Visibility — Everyone in the organisation can see what the strategic priorities are and who owns them.

  • Accountability — Goals have owners, due dates, and status tracking. No more "I thought someone else was doing that."

  • Alignment — Focus areas ensure goals roll up to strategic themes, not just random tasks.

  • Progress Tracking — Gantt charts, status indicators, and snapshots give leadership real-time visibility.

Quick Steps

  • Navigate to Plans from the left-hand navigation menu.

  • You'll see the Plans summary page — a table listing all plans with their title, owner, group, status, and dates.

  • Use the Add button to create a new plan.

  • Click any plan name to open its Plan Detail Page where you manage focus areas and goals.

Key Concepts

Concept

What It Is

Plan

The top-level container. A plan has a title, owner, group, and one or more focus areas.

Focus Area

A strategic theme within a plan (e.g., "Customer Experience", "Operational Excellence"). Goals sit inside focus areas.

Goal

A specific, trackable objective with an owner, due date, and status (Draft or Active).

Template Hierarchy

A pre-defined structure of goal templates. Must be configured before you can create goals.

Plan Statuses

  • Draft — The plan is being built. Not yet visible to the wider organisation.

  • Published — The plan is live. Published plans show a version number (e.g., v1.0).

Important: You must set up a Template Hierarchy on a plan before you can create goals. Without it, the "Add Goal" button will show a validation message.
