Plan Detail Page Overview

Tour of the Plan Detail Page — tabs, header, focus areas, goals, and sidebar.

Written by James Ross

Description

The Plan Detail Page is where you do the real work of strategic planning. This is where you create focus areas, add goals, configure the plan sidebar, and track progress.

Reasoning

Understanding the layout of the Plan Detail Page helps you work efficiently. The page is divided into three main areas: the header, the main content area, and the right sidebar.

Quick Steps

  • From the Plans summary page, click any plan name to open the Plan Detail Page.

  • The header shows:

    • Plan name — Click to edit inline.

    • Status — Draft or Published (with version number).

    • Last updated — Date of the most recent change.

    • Views — How many times the plan has been viewed.

  • The tab bar below the header has four tabs:

    • Edit Information — The default view. Shows focus areas and goals.

    • Preferences — Configure plan-level settings.

    • Gantt Chart — Visual timeline of goals and their dates.

    • Snapshot — A read-only summary view of the plan.

  • The main content area (Edit Information tab) contains:

    • Search bar — Search goals across all focus areas.

    • Add Focus Area button — Creates a new strategic theme.

    • Add Goal button — Creates a new goal (requires Template Hierarchy).

    • Focus areas — Each focus area shows its name, description, and the goals inside it.

  • The right sidebar has eight tabs (Plan Principles, Actions, Stakeholders, Plan Template, Tags, Details, Template Hierarchy, Future State). See Plan Sidebar Overview for details.

Restrictions

  • Only plan owners and administrators can edit the plan.

  • Viewers see a read-only version without edit controls.

  • The sidebar starts collapsed — click the sidebar toggle to expand it.

Important: You cannot create goals until a Template Hierarchy is configured on the plan. If you click "Add Goal" without one, you'll see a validation message.
