Description
Focus areas are the strategic themes within a plan. They group related goals together under a common heading — like "Customer Experience", "Operational Excellence", or "Digital Transformation". Every goal in a plan belongs to a focus area.
Reasoning
Without focus areas, your plan is just a flat list of goals. Focus areas give structure, making it clear how individual goals contribute to broader strategic priorities. They also help leadership review progress at the theme level, not just the goal level.
Quick Steps
Create a Focus Area
Open the plan from the Plans summary page.
On the Edit Information tab, click the Add Focus Area button.
In the modal that appears, fill in:
Title * — The name of the focus area (e.g., "Customer Experience").
Description * — A brief explanation of what this focus area covers.
Icon — Optional. Choose an icon from the dropdown.
Color — Optional. Pick a colour for visual identification. Defaults to white.
Click Save.
Edit a Focus Area
Hover over the focus area name.
Click the Edit Focus Area icon (pencil) that appears.
Update the title, description, icon, or colour.
Click Save.
Reorder Focus Areas
Click and hold the drag handle (⠿) on the left side of the focus area.
Drag the focus area to its new position.
Release to drop.
Delete a Focus Area
Hover over the focus area name.
Click the delete icon that appears next to the edit icon.
Confirm the deletion.
Restrictions
Title and Description are required.
Deleting a focus area also deletes all goals inside it.
You must have edit permissions on the plan to manage focus areas.
Important: Deleting a focus area is permanent. All goals within it are removed. Export or reassign goals before deleting if you need to keep them.
