Description
Goals can be organised into a hierarchy — a parent goal with child goals underneath it. This lets you break down large objectives into smaller, manageable sub-goals, each with their own owner and timeline.
Why Use Goal Hierarchies?
A goal like "Improve Customer Satisfaction" is too broad to track meaningfully. Break it down:
Parent: Improve Customer Satisfaction
Child: Reduce response time to under 4 hours
Child: Implement customer feedback survey
Child: Train support team on new escalation process
Each child goal has its own owner, dates, and status — but they all roll up to the parent.
Quick Steps
Add a Child Goal
Right-click on an existing goal in the plan tree.
Select Add Child Goal from the context menu.
Fill in the goal details in the modal (same fields as creating a regular goal).
Click Save as Draft or Activate Goal.
The new goal appears indented under the parent.
View the Hierarchy
Goals display as a tree structure within each focus area.
Parent goals can be expanded or collapsed to show/hide children.
Each level is indented to show the relationship.
Restrictions
There is no limit to nesting depth, but 3 levels (parent → child → grandchild) is the practical maximum for readability.
Deleting a parent goal deletes all child goals.
Child goals can have different owners than their parent.
Important: Child goals inherit the same Focus Area as their parent. You cannot move a child goal to a different focus area without first moving it out of the hierarchy.
