Description
The Template Hierarchy defines which goal templates are available in a plan and in what order. Before you can create any goals in a plan, you must configure the template hierarchy. It's the bridge between your plan and the goal templates that define what a goal looks like.
Why Template Hierarchy is Required
Goal templates define the structure of goals — what fields they have, what custom properties apply, and how they behave. The template hierarchy tells the plan which templates to use and in what order they appear in the "Add Goal" modal. Without it, the system doesn't know what kind of goals to create.
Quick Steps
Access the Template Hierarchy
Open the plan and expand the right sidebar.
Click the Template Hierarchy tab.
Configure the Hierarchy
The hierarchy panel shows available goal templates.
Add templates to the hierarchy by selecting them from the available list.
Reorder templates using drag-and-drop — click and hold the drag handle (⠿) next to a template, then drag it to its new position.
The order in the hierarchy determines the order in the "Add Goal" modal's Template dropdown.
Set Up Parent-Child Relationships
The hierarchy can define which templates can be parents and which can be children.
This controls the goal tree structure — which goals can be nested under which.
A flat hierarchy means all goals are at the same level.
Restrictions
You cannot create goals without a template hierarchy. The "Add Goal" button will show a validation message if no hierarchy is configured.
At least one goal template must be added to the hierarchy.
Templates must exist in the system before they can be added to the hierarchy (configured in Settings).
Changing the hierarchy after goals are created does not affect existing goals — only new ones.
Important: If you click "Add Goal" and see a message about template mappings, it means the Template Hierarchy is empty. Come to this tab and add at least one goal template before creating goals.
