Description
Goals are objectives, but getting them done requires work. Tasks and activities let you break a goal into concrete action items — specific things that need to happen for the goal to be achieved. Think of goals as the "what" and tasks as the "how."
Tasks vs Activities
A goal has two related but distinct sections:
Tasks — Actionable work items with a description, assigned user, due date, and status. Tasks are the concrete steps needed to achieve the goal.
Activities — A feed of actions and updates on the goal. This includes action buttons (configured by the goal template) and a chronological log of what has happened on the goal.
Quick Steps
Add a Task to a Goal
Open the plan and locate the goal in the tree.
Right-click the goal and select Edit Goal, or click on the goal to open its detail view.
Navigate to the Tasks tab within the goal.
Click Add Task.
Fill in the task details:
Task Description — What needs to be done.
Assigned To — Who is responsible for this task.
Due Date — When the task should be completed.
Status — Draft, Active, or Completed.
Click Save.
Task Statuses
Draft — The task has been created but is not yet active. Draft tasks do not appear in user task lists or trigger notifications.
Active — The task is live and being worked on. Active tasks appear in assigned users' task lists.
Completed — The task is done.
Publishing and Task Activation
When a goal is published (moved from Draft to Active status), all its draft tasks are automatically activated. This means you can create tasks during the planning phase and they'll go live when the goal is activated — no manual activation needed.
Manage Tasks
Mark tasks as complete by checking them off or changing the status.
Edit task details by clicking on the task.
Delete tasks that are no longer needed.
Users with edit access can add, complete, reject, or escalate tasks.
Goal Activity Feed
The Activity tab shows a chronological feed of all actions taken on the goal.
Action Buttons — configured by the goal template, these allow users to submit actions (e.g., "Submit for Review", "Mark as Blocked"). Each button has a label, icon, colour, and tooltip.
Clicking an action button loads a dynamic form where you fill in details and submit.
The activity feed logs every action, update, and change made to the goal.
Restrictions
Tasks belong to a specific goal — they don't exist independently.
Deleting a goal also deletes all its tasks.
Only users with edit permissions on the plan can manage tasks.
Draft tasks are automatically activated when the goal is published — you cannot keep tasks in Draft on an Active goal.
Action buttons are configured by administrators via goal templates — users cannot create their own action buttons.
Important: Tasks are different from child goals. Use child goals when the sub-objective is significant enough to track independently (with its own owner, dates, and status). Use tasks for smaller action items that contribute to the parent goal.
