When creating a process or value stream, decisions can be added to help distinguish between the different paths.

Decisions can be linked to a new activity, existing activity, a process link or an endpoint. Activities and process links that are attached to decisions can also have endpoints added to them.

Quick Steps to Add a Decision

  1. Different ways to add a decision:

    1. Click the decision button found top left of the map

    2. On the right-hand side diagram content menu, a plus sign appears between activities. Select the one where you want to add the decision.

    3. Hover over the connector where you want to add the decision. A green or orange plus sign will appear, click on it. Green plus sign appears between connectors in the happy path. The orange plus sign appears when a branch can be added.

  2. Add Decision card will popup with three tabs:

    1. Details tab: enter the decision title and responsible roles. Easily switch the destinations of the YES and NO path.

    2. Alternative Path tab: if either the YES or NO path leads to an alternative route:

      1. Select the activity of the alternative path

      2. Optionally add a text to describe the alternative path

      3. Choose to display it on the map by switching the toggle on or off

      4. Optionally change the connector positions

      5. Optionally change the connector line type. The default line is dotted

  3. Select Add Decision to save the details

  4. The decision will be added to the map and diagram content menu

End Point

  • When a Decision is created, an endpoint is automatically added to its alternate path.

  • Activities and/or Linked Processes must be manually added to the alternate path of a decision.

  • If an Activity linked to the decision is deleted, the option to “Add an endpoint?” becomes available on the decision node.

  • Upon creating a new decision, the “Add an endpoint?” option is not visible, as the system automatically includes an endpoint by default.

  • If no activities or linked processes are added to the alternate path after the decision is created, the “Add an endpoint?” option becomes available.

  • When an activity is added as a child of the decision node, the previously added endpoint is automatically removed.

  • If the alternate path is set with an activity or linked process, the endpoint is automatically removed.

Use the options button next to the attached activity (if applicable) to add:

When adding or updating a decision, the version number of the process or value stream will increase.
