RACI Matrix

Each activity is assigned according to which role is Responsible, Accountable, Consulted and Informed

A RACI matrix can be found on a process and a value stream.

The RACI matrix, also referred to as a RACI chart, is a project management tool designed to define and communicate roles and responsibilities within a team. RACI roles are explained as follow:

  • Responsible – The individuals who carry out the task or activity.

  • Accountable – The person ultimately answerable for the task’s successful completion.

  • Consulted – Subject matter experts or stakeholders who provide input and advice.

  • Informed – Individuals who need to be kept up to date on progress or outcomes, but who are not directly involved in the work.

By clearly outlining who is responsible, accountable, consulted, and informed, a RACI chart helps promote better communication, reduce confusion, and support overall project success.

Quick Steps to View a Process RACI Matrix

  1. Open the process or value stream.

  2. Select the Stakeholders icon in the diagram content menu on the right-hand side.

  3. A green 'RACI Matrix' button displays in the top right corner.

  4. Select it.

  5. The RACI Matrix page will load.

  6. Search/ filter bar is available at the top of the RACI matrix to search for a specific activity.

  7. To return to the process, select the large green 'Return to process' button at the bottom of the RACI matrix.

Quick Steps to Navigate the RACI Matrix

  1. Activities are listed on the left, following the node numbering of the process. Roles are displayed in square brackets.

  2. All roles are listed as column headings at the top.

  3. On the matrix, each RACI allocation is displayed in it's own coloured block:

    1. Responsible: Green block with a capital R

    2. Accountable: Red block with a capital A

    3. Consulted: Yellow block with a capital C

    4. Informed: Blue block with a capital I

Default Allocations

Processpro allocates the RACI roles by default as follows. You have the ability to change these role allocations by making use of the feature override roles on the RACI matrix.

  1. Responsible: roles allocated to the specific activities

  2. Accountable: process owner

  3. Consulted: experts (SME)

  4. Informed: all stakeholders and informees

RACI roles are not the same as activity roles and cannot be assigned using bulk change.
