A swimlane appears as a horizontal line across the map. It helps you clearly see which roles are responsible for which nodes or activities.

The alternate way of viewing a process is where the roles are embedded within the activity. This is known as embedded view/ complex view and there are no swimlanes.

Automatically Created Swimlanes

When you assign a role(s) to a node on the map, a swimlane is automatically created for that role(s). The swimlane visually shows who is responsible for that specific activity.

If multiple roles are responsible for the same activity, they will all appear in the same swimlane. These roles can be:

Manually Added Swimlanes

You can also manually add extra swimlanes if needed. This can make the overall process or value stream easier to read and understand.

Move Swimlanes

Swimlanes can be moved around the map when the map is unlocked, allowing you to organise the layout in a way that makes the process clearer.
